The word halloween comes from a religious act that means "the day of all the saints" in a 1 and 2 of November is celebrated.
In century 5 before Christ, in Ireland, the 31 of October a festival of of Samhain was celebrated that celebrated the end of the summer and the beginning of a new year. When the night arrived, the celebration of deads was celebrated, so the spirits left and went by all Earth. Enormous bonfires became and the druidas ones made spells. One said that during that night the spells and the magic were more powerful than in any other day.
The Christianity tried to end all the religious things. But celtas could not leave their customs absolutely, so the Christian church changed the name to them of Samhain to Halloween. The Christian church of century 7 celebrated the day of All the Saints in May, but people continued waiting for the arrival of ghosts the 31 of October, so the celebration to the saints fué changed to 1 and 2 of November.
